Do I have to create an adobe account to use my sony ebook reader?

I just got one for christmas and Im trying to download a book but it keeps asking me for my adobe password. But I looked onlne and you have to pay 10$ a month to sign up. Cant I just download the book without having to ay another $10 a month?

    You should not have to pay any monthly fee to set up your ebook reader. Sony Digital Editions accounts are free, and so are accounts at the Sony store. (The books aren’t free, but the accounts themselves are.)

    Sounds like the book itself is some kind of subscription rather than a normal book. Find a free ebook and use that to set up your account; there’s always a few freebies at the Sony store.
