Does an ebook reader read pdf files? or should I get some kind of program that exports ebook files?
I’m working on a visual story, with text & some animated pictures and I need to make it into an ebook

See if the Amazon Kindle DX matches what you need. There is a review here written by a person who is also a writer:
However, I think ebook readers cannot show animated pictures… Only static picture in grey scale. See if you can stay with it.
Hope it helps

The Amazon Kindle is the most popular ebook reader in the market. It has two models, the Kindle 2 and the Kindle DX.
The Kindle DX is the best ebook reader right now among all ebook readers, and it is also best in handling PDF files.
The Kindle 2 can read PDF files after conversion.
There are some good comparison between the two models here, see if they match your requirement:
Hope this helps you making the correct choice.

to make an ebook you need a specific software such as
it supports animated pictures
pdf files should be avoided (they are quite good for normal paper books that you must print, of course)

Yes, but not animated pictures I think. The Amazon Kindle can read PDF files.
Read here, the 2nd paragraph, on what the Kindle can do for PDF files:
Hope this helps.
